Thoughts: Came across this cute little short clip today on Vimeo. The video description reads:

“a teaser for our latest project “I’m a monster”. This is a piece we developed to give an idea of the mood and look of the film and the characters.”

So in terms of scope or plot, I haven’t the faintest idea. But it looks visually superb, and the clip will make you smile.

Thoughts: This trailer isn’t trying to sell itself to just any passer by. It’s apart of the Evangelion anime series, so all it has to do is flash some dramatic action sequences, and it’s good to go. I have never gotten into the series myself, so I am not the right guy to judge this trailer based on demographic they are selling it to. So I’ll leave this trailer un-rated.

Evangelion: 2.0 hits theaters January 21st, 2011. Directed by Hideaki Anno.

Scrat’s Continental Crack-Up

Thoughts: A little too brief, even for a teaser trailer. Shows nothing new from the 1st film. Nothing to get excited over unless your a Kung Fu Panda fan already. In that case, the studio could have just flashed the Kung Fu Panda 2 logo and saved them selves money on producing this trailer.

Kung Fu Panda 2 hits theaters May 26th, 2011. Starring Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, Seth Rogen, Gary Oldman, Dustin Hoffman, Jackie Chan, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Lucy Liu, David Cross, James Woods, and Michelle Yeoh. Directed by Jennifer Yuh.

Thoughts: I have not been this excited to watch an anime film since my Junior year in High School. Anime just hasn’t had any main stream titles come out that appealed to me. I thought maybe I was just growing away from it, but this trailer for Summer Wars has lit that fire within. Totally loving this trailer for Summer Wars. The concept, the animation, and story are all great. I especially love the dependency on cyber space issue. Reminds me a bit of Ghost In The Shell.

Summer Wars is directed by Mamoru Hosoda. The films is showing in various film festivals across the United States. No details at this time regarding the film’s release.

Thoughts: I wasn’t feeling the 1st trailer for Rango. To be fair, it was just a teaser trailer that barely shed a light on the film’s story. This theatrical trailer is a completely different story. I love it. I am really digging the whole western outlaw feel. The character lines in the trailer feel fresh, and the age old story of an unlikely hero isn’t feeling recycled either. Rango looks like it has it’s own unique story to tell in a world filled with characters that are for the most part 2 dimensional, but still highly entertaining.

Rango hits theaters March 4th, 2011. Starring Johnny Depp, Isla Fisher, Abigail Breslin, Alfred Molina, Bill Nighy, Harry Dean Stanton, Ray Winstone, and Timothy Olyphant. Directed by Gore Verbinski.

Thoughts: I liked the 1st quarter of this trailer. And then the Finding Nemo plot came in. Lost computer animated characters have be done over and over. Toy Story was one of the first, Nemo did it best, and everything else has just been kind of “eh”.

Rio hits theaters April 8th, 2011. Starring Jesse Eisenberg, Anne Hathaway, George Lopez, Jake T. Austin, Jamie Foxx, Rodrigo Santoro, Tracy Morgan, Will.i.am, Jane Lynch, Leslie Mann, Neil Patrick Harris, Robin Thicke. Directed by Carlos Saldanha.

Thoughts: Ha! Santa flying a giant red UFO like ship instead of a sleigh. That was awesome. I like teasers like this. They aren’t made of footage from the film like trailers. The footage is specifically made for the teaser. A good sign the movie isn’t a hallow money grab.

Arthur Christmas is directed by Sarah Smith and Barry Cook. Starring James McAvoy, Hugh Laurie, Jim Broadbent, Bill Nighy, Imelda Staunton, and Ashley Jensen. Look for it in theaters November 23rd, 2011.

Thoughts: Holy shit. I have never posted so many bullshit trailers in one day. I am not mad because a Smurfs movie is being made. I am mad that it is so typical. Before the trailer even got to it, I knew I was going to see “smurf’d” pop up. Sure enough, the word “smurf’d” is plastered across the screen. Then the catch phrase “smurf happens” appears on screen. Really? American kids are dumb because we entertain them with dumb movies.

Ok, enough ranting. Sorry, I think I just snapped from 3 terrible trailers I have seen today. Seriously though… SMURF’D! Ten bucks the line “you got smurf’d” is going to be said in this movie. Don’t look at your sword Rob. Don’t do it. Nooooo….

Thoughts: Am I supposed to this this hip looking rabbit is cool or something? I thought the movie industry was sort of moving beyond these types of films. I know kids are an easy sell. Look kiddies! A furry animal doing cool human things! How original. My rant is the broken record of the internet’s many movie bloggers. I am just pissed off cause it feels like a hundred of these movies have been made over and over AND I STILL HAVEN’T GOTTEN MY $*%#ing BERENSTAIN BEARS MOVIE! How many more years Hollywood? How many more years…

PS. This movie comes out April 1st, 2011. Aka, April Fools day. Anyone sensing someone at Universal Pictures is snickering right now while lobster?

Thoughts: Mars Needs Moms trailer has some highs and lows. More highs than lows. I really like the animation and model designs. The big space dude voiced by Dan Fogler has some amazing animated body movements. His facial expressions are flawless. The comedy is a little kiddie so it’s out of my element but the animation is still amazing enough that I want to see it. A solid first trailer.

Thoughts: It’s Family Guy. What can I say? I am seeing some recycled jokes from the show in this trailer, which I have noticed a lot lately with some of their newer episodes. But alas, it’s a Star Wars parody. So I will see it. The trailer is everything I expect from Family Guy. Nothing more, nothing less…

Family Guy: It’s A Trap! comes out December 21st 2010 via digital download. Starring the voices of Seth MacFarlane, Alex Borstein, Seth Green, Mila Kunis, and Mike Henry.

Thoughts: Wow. I am shocked. Shocked that Cars 2 doesn’t look good at all. So the second movie is going to be a spy themed comedy? Taking cues from Get Smart I suppose? Seriously, I am shocked Pixar would do a film that borrows so heavily from the spy comedy genre. When I think Pixar, I think quality and originality. Films that are made for children but still entertaining and intelligent enough for adults.

Maybe the film will be a lot better than what this trailer is advertising. If that is the case, someone better fire someone in the trailer production studio cause this looks like a dud.

Cars 2 hits theaters June 24th, 2011. Starring Owen Wilson, Larry the Cable Guy, Bonnie Hunt, and John Ratzenberger. Directed by John Lasseter.

Thoughts: Oh snap! Winnie the Pooh is back?! Clear my schedule the weekend of July 15th, 2011. I’ll be in the theater getting my pooh on. Errrrmmm that is not how… um. Eff.

Winnie The Pooh hits theaters July 15th, 2011. Narrated by John Cleese. Directed by Stephen Anderson.

Thoughts: I don’t think I have seen an animated film the looks as good as The Illusionist. Even the legendary Hayao Miyazaki’s films (of ‘Spirited Away’, ‘Howl’s Moving Castle’, and ‘Princess Mononoke’ fame) don’t look this good (in my opinion). I am immediatly taken into the world of The Illusionist and I never want to leave. I just wish they didn’t flood the trailer with review quotes and just let the movie speak for itself :/.

The Illusionist is directed by Sylvain Chomet. No release date has been set at this time for the United States.

Thoughts: The visual of Tangled sell the movie enough. This is a good thing. Being that this is the 3rd trailer released for the movie, and I still don’t really know what the overall story arc is besides Princess Rapunzel escaping her tower. So the only thing selling me on seeing this movie is indeed to sweet animation. In Disney we trust…
