Synopsis: Anton is a doctor who commutes between his home in an idyllic town in Denmark, and his work at an African refugee camp. In these two very different worlds, he and his family are faced with conflicts that lead them to difficult choices between revenge and forgiveness.

Anton and his wife Marianne, who have two young sons, are separated and struggling with the possibility of divorce. Their older, ten-year-old son Elias is being bullied at school, until he is defended by Christian, a new boy who has just moved from London with his father, Claus. Christian’s mother recently lost her battle with cancer, and Christian is greatly troubled by her death.

Elias and Christian quickly form a strong bond, but when Christian involves Elias in a dangerous act of revenge with potentially tragic consequences, their friendship is tested and lives are put in danger. Ultimately, it is their parents who are left to help them come to terms with the complexity of human emotions, pain and empathy.

Synopsis: After a 35-year absence, director Mercedes Alvarez returns to her native village Aldealsenor in remote northwest Spain. The passing years have made them natural philosophers, historians, and comedians -they muse on the transience of things, regard the folly of conquerors from Caesar to Bush, and lace it all with ironic, quintessentially Spanish humor. For the moment, life goes on. Very soon however, without any outward commotion and without anyone to bear witness, it will all come to an end. The final 14 represent the last generation of a people that have carried on more than 1000 years of uninterrupted village life. Soon they will join the other ghosts that haunt these ancient hills – ghosts of dinosaurs, Romans, Moors, and Fascists. Alvarez’s proxy within the film is her friend, the painter Pello Azketa. Synopsis: TAMBIEN LA LLUVIA sets up an intriguing dialogue about Spanish imperialism through incidents taking place some 500 years apart, while examining the personal belief systems of the members of a film crew headed by director Sebastian (Gael Garcia Bernal) and his producer Costa (Luis Tosar) who arrive in Bolivia to make a revisionist film about the conquest of Latin America. Set in February and March of 2000 when real-life protests against the privatization of water rocked the nation, the film reflexively blurs the line between fiction and reality in what Variety calls “a powerful, richly layered indictment of the plight of Latin America’s dispossessed.” Carlos Aduviri is dynamic as a local who is cast as a 15th century native in the film, but when the make-up and loin cloth come off, he sails into action protesting his community’s deprivation of water at the hands of the government. Meanwhile, Gael Garcia Bernal’s Idealist film director is as relentless as Werner Herzog infamously was in making FITZCARALDO, pushing ahead against all odds, ignoring the prevailing danger about to disrupt at any moment. Despite the devastation emerging around him, Sebastian seems unable to engage with any emotion over than a dogmatic desire to get his film done. And of course, the film also recalls themes in Herzog’s AGUIRRE, THE WRATH OF GOD and the film-within-a-film scenes are as brutal as any in APOCALYPTO.

Synopsis: In ancient China, a husband and wife, both of them retired superheroes, contend with the high cost of living, infertility, and other contemporary life issues.

Thoughts: I hope Mr. and Mrs. Incredible get a US release because I REALLY want to see this movie. The title and concept resemble Pixar’s The Incredibles, but I have secretly wanted to see a live action Incredibles since I saw it. And I will certainly take a goofy looking chinese version any day. Not saying this movie is ripping off The Incredibles. Just saying it has similarities, but Mr. and Mrs. Incredible has it’s own uniqueness.

Mr. and Mrs. Incredible is set to release in China, Febuary 2011. No word on US release date at this time. Starring Louis Koo, Sandra Ng Kwan Yue, and Chapman To. Directed by Vincent Kok.

Poetry Trailer

Synopsis: A drama centered on a woman at the end of her life in search of new meaning.

Thoughts: Not being a fan of self discovery movies, I find myself overjoyed watching this trailer for Poetry. Reason being, Poetry is a self discovery flick where the main character actually has something to loose. That something being herself. As she is diagnosed with Alzheimer disease, and she is just starting to explore her potential in her late age. An interesting twist of fate concept. Another film to keep an eye out on.

No release date has been announced at this time for Poetry. Starring Jeong-hie Yun, Nae-sang Ahn, and Da-wit Lee. Directed by Chang-dong Lee.

Carancho Trailer

Synopsis: In Argentina over 8,000 people die in traffic accidents every year. Behind each of these tragedies is a flourishing industry founded on insurance payouts and legal loopholes. Sosa is a lawyer who tours the A&E Departments of the public hospitals and the police stations in search of potential clients. Luján is a young doctor recently arrived from the provinces. Their love story kicks off one night when Luján and Sosa meet in the street. She’s trying to save a man’s life; he wants him on his client portfolio.

Thoughts: An interesting trailer. The unique mix of rock and chaotic scenes showcased definitely give of some badass vibes, but a little more clarity on the relationship between the two main characters would have been nice.

No release date has been announced at this time for Carancho. Starring Ricardo Darín, Martina Gusman and Carlos Weber. Directed by Pablo Trapero.

Applause Trailer

Synopsis: When the critically acclaimed, tough and coming of age actress Thea Barfoed ends her rehab, she confronts a hard choice. During her heavy drinking period she divorced and lost custody of her two boys. Now she wants them to be a part of her life again. Christian, her ex husband is quickly softened by her tough manipulative but charming figure and agrees. She has to prove to her self and to him, that she is worth the try. But the hard life on stage, and the ghosts of the past slowly comes knocking on her door. Thea is forced to face her inner voices. She is bound to give in to her faith, and make the choice.

Thoughts: Not feeling this trailer. It doesn’t look like a bad film, just not a film I would be interested in seeing. The subject doesn’t interest me, personally. But overall, the trailer is produced well and gives great insight into the film. I have to praise the trailer for showcasing critic quotes in an unobtrusive and respectable manner. Unlike some other trailers that choose to throw critics quotes in your face like the opening of Star Wars. That is one of my biggest trailer peeves.

The Housemaid Trailer

Synopsis: A favorite at this year’s Cannes, Toronto and Fantastic Fest film festivals, THE HOUSEMAID is a stylish, sexy thriller about an innocent young woman caught in the twisted web of a rich family’s games.

Eun-yi (Cannes Best Actress winner Jeon Do-youn of SECRET SUNSHINE) is hired as a nanny in an lavish mansion by businessman Hoon (Lee Jung-jae) and his very pregnant wife, Hae-ra (Seo Woo). When Eun-yi is seduced by the father of the house, she becomes the unwitting victim in a series of traps laid by the women of the house—Hae-ra, her villainous mother (Park Ji-young), and their seemingly loyal but increasingly bitter housekeeper (Yun Yeo-jong). Intensely erotic and fiendishly entertaining, THE HOUSEMAID builds to an unforgettable climax as Eun-yi must outwit them and escape their schemes to protect her sanity—and her life—from the vicious family.

Thoughts: The Housemaid looks surprisingly fresh. I am used to Korean films looking / feeling a little more mundane in their dramas. The Housemaid looks like a high tension flick that could be a lot of fun to watch. I especially like the sexy rock track attached to the trailer. I just wish the trailer didn’t over do it with the critic quotes.

Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance Trailer

Thoughts: This trailer isn’t trying to sell itself to just any passer by. It’s apart of the Evangelion anime series, so all it has to do is flash some dramatic action sequences, and it’s good to go. I have never gotten into the series myself, so I am not the right guy to judge this trailer based on demographic they are selling it to. So I’ll leave this trailer un-rated.

Evangelion: 2.0 hits theaters January 21st, 2011. Directed by Hideaki Anno.

Tetsuo: The Bullet Man Trailer

Synopsis: An American named Anthony is living and working in Tokyo and married to a Japanese woman. When their son is killed by the same driver who creates the Tetsuos in previous films, he makes the transformation into Tetsuo.

Thoughts: This is the third film in the Tetsuo film series. Known for it’s hyperbolic / nightmarish visuals, the series has a sizable underground fan base. And if you don’t love Tetsuo, you probably hate it. I have yet to see any of the Tetsuo films, but I have seen a few clips of the first film, and it looks absolutely insane.

This is one of those trailers that really shouldn’t be rated. It’s for a very specific audience and has a very specific style that can’t be categorized with the rest of the trailers on the site.

Tetsuo: The Bullet Man has been circling film festivals across the world since 2009. No release date has been announced at this time. Starring Eric Bossick, Akiko Monô and Yûko Nakamura. Directed by Shinya Tsukamoto.

Ultraman Zero Trailer

Synopsis: Not available at this time. Scratch that, untranslatable at this time lol.

Thoughts: This trailer is nuts. The insanity is partially why I am posting it. Ultraman is also one of the most iconic Japanese superheroes of all time, so I figured maybe some of our readers / viewers will appreciate this trailer.

As for me, it’s about what I would expect from a movie based on a somewhat zany japanese superhero show from the 60′s. I can’t take it seriously by any means, but I’d definitely be down to watch it. Maybe after a drink or two.

Interesting note, this film is also titled ‘Ultraman Zero The Movie: Super Deciding Fight! The Belial Galactic Empire‘. Lol. Super Deciding Fight? Ok…

Ultraman Zero stars Mamoru Miyano. Directed by Yûichi Abe. Ultraman Zero is not scheduled to release in the U.S. at this time. But keep an eye out on Amazon. I am sure it will pop up on DVD sooner or later.

Golden Slumber Trailer

Synopsi1ws: When easy-going Aoyagi meets an old friend for a fishing trip, he ends up drugged, framed for the Prime Minister’s assassination, and on the run from corrupt cops. It’s only the beginning of what quickly becomes the worst, weirdest day of his life. But he’ll get by with a little help from his friends, who include a famous pop diva, a rockabilly deliveryman, a crippled old gangster, and the world’s most cheerful serial killer. Among the many puzzles of this twisty, clever film is how Nakamura manages to sneak a genuinely moving tribute to friendship into the madcap procession of perilous events. No matter what befalls Aoyagi, his friends and parents believe in him because of his steadfast, almost irrational pleasantness.

Thoughts: Golden Slumber advertises itself as a gripping mystery thriller in this trailer, but I am not all that interested. I think the mystery of who is after the main character and why they are framing him is too concealed. I would at least like see the shoes of who ever is hiding behind the curtain. The whole “4 people connected by the Beatles song, Golden Slumber” is surprising and does peak my interest a little. But yea, still way to vague.
